About HIMKI

The existence of the national furniture and crafts industry sector has a significant contribution as one of the leading national labor-intensive industries because of its role which has been proven to be able to absorb large numbers of workers. However, this industrial sector cannot yet be optimized as one of the pillars of large and adequate national economic strength. To advance it requires efforts from all parties with innovative programs that can encourage the rise of a more advanced and dignified national furniture and crafts industry.

HIMKI as an association of business actors in the furniture and crafts sector, in the broadest sense, is aware of its responsibility to foster and develop harmonious cooperation, encourage equal distribution of business opportunities and participate in implementing national development in the economic sector.

HIMKI was founded on the basis of a common vision, mission and goals among its members to jointly advance the national furniture and craft industry. This organization is expected to become an aspirational and accommodating institution with a spirit of equality among its members.

HIMKI is an organization of furniture and craft industry entrepreneurs in Indonesia which is based in Jakarta with organizational branches spread across production bases throughout the Indonesian archipelago, especially on the island of Java as the largest cluster. HIMKI currently has 16 Regional Management Councils or abbreviated as DPD spread across the islands of Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, NTB and Bali.  HIMKI members currently consist of more than 2,500 industrial companies/exporters with the proportion consisting of 20% large-scale companies, 40% medium-scale companies, and 40% small-scale companies, with the aim of exporting to more than 120 countries throughout the world. The 10 largest export destination countries are the USA, Japan, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Australia, the UK, France, South Korea and Taiwan.

HIMKI was formed based on full agreement and mandate from two associations, namely the Indonesian Furniture and Crafts Association (AMKRI) and the Indonesian Furniture and Crafts Industry Association (ASMINDO). This merger is stated in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which was signed on April 20 2016 at the Aryaduta Hotel, Jakarta. HIMKI was inaugurated on May 31 2016 in Jakarta and witnessed directly by the Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto. The merger of AMKRI and ASMINDO into one forum to become HIMKI was at the direction of Mr. President Joko Widodo, the aim of which was to advance the furniture and crafts industry with strong competitiveness in the domestic and export markets.
